Stelo System Administrator/Support Engineer
Key Responsibilities – System Administrator (Internal)

Own the day-to-day maintenance and reliability of our internal infrastructure, handling routine systems, network, and database upkeep across our small but diverse environment.

Administer, maintain, and troubleshoot virtualized infrastructure platforms (e.g., VxRail/VMware) running Windows Server and Linux, focusing on routine maintenance, patching, and performance monitoring.

Manage user accounts, groups, and permissions across AD/Azure AD and internal systems, enforcing least-privilege access and MFA.

Support and maintain cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) for virtual machines, networking, storage, and secure remote access.

Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Fortinet-based VPN solutions to ensure secure and reliable connectivity for remote users.

Implement and maintain backup and recovery processes for servers, applications, and databases, including periodic restore testing.

Monitor the health and capacity of systems, networks, VPN, and services, and handle incident response and basic performance troubleshooting.

Perform routine operational tasks: OS and application updates, certificate renewals, log reviews, and security patching.

Administer and support databases, especially IBM DB2 LUW and IBM i (AS/400), including basic administration, backup/restore, and performance troubleshooting in cooperation with the product team.
Key Responsibilities – Support Engineer (External)

Provide technical support for SQDR customers via remote sessions, email, and ticketing systems. Support includes troubleshooting complex environments and product issues while guiding customers through installation, configuration, and best practices.

Troubleshoot SQDR deployment issues, including connectivity, configuration, database integration (DB2, IBM i, other RDBMS), and OS/environment problems.

Analyze logs and diagnostic information to identify root causes and recommend workarounds or long-term solutions.

Assist customers with installing, upgrading, and configuring SQDR in their environments (Windows/Linux, on-premises and cloud).

Collaborate with internal engineering teams to escalate product defects, reproduce issues, and validate fixes and patches.

Contribute to knowledge base articles, how‑to guides, and FAQs.
Required Qualifications
-
5+ years of experience in systems administration / infrastructure roles, with responsibility for production environments.

Strong hands-on experience with Windows Server and Linux (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL, Rocky/CentOS) in virtualized environments.

Experience with virtual infrastructure platforms such as VxRail, VMware, Hyper‑V, or similar.

Working experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including basic compute, storage, and networking.

Experience supporting relational databases, preferably DB2 LUW and/or IBM i (AS/400), including backup/restore and basic performance troubleshooting.

Solid understanding of network fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, routing, and firewalls.

Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Fortinet VPN solutions in a production environment.

Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, network, database, and application layers.

Excellent customer-facing communication skills and prior experience supporting external technical users or customers.

Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment, managing priorities, and documenting work clearly.
Preferred Qualifications

Hands-on experience with ODBC/JDBC drivers, including connection lifecycle management, statement execution, parameter and result-set handling, diagnostics (SQLSTATE, error codes), and performance tuning across multiple relational databases.

Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, or Microsoft Fabric.

Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD practices.
Structure and Compensation
- The position is 100% remote, full-time, and exempt
- Stelo will provide all necessary computer equipment
- Employee is responsible for providing a suitable workspace
- Employee will be assigned a fixed weekly schedule
- Candidate should expect to work Pacific time hours most days
- Salary $90,000-$130,000 commensurate with experience
