Building on Reliable, Real-Time Data Replication, Stelo Releases Stelo Data Replicator v6.1

Data is in high demand in today’s global business environment, but it doesn’t hold much weight without accuracy and actionability. Stelo Data Replicator has been helping companies meet their information sharing and compliance goals for over two decades, and we recently announced the release of the newest version of our replication technology, Stelo v6.1.

Stelo v6.1 offers the same robust, real-time data replication customers expect Stelo, with added capabilities for long haul support. We’re focused on helping our customers future-proof their systems with open-source infrastructure for added functionality and flexibility.

New features and benefits present in v6.1:

  • High-performance support for non-SQL destinations
For non-SQL destinations, switching from a language-oriented interface (i.e., Open Database Connectivity or ODBC) to a message-oriented mechanism (i.e., Kafka) or native interfaces (i.e., Databricks DataFrames APIs) implemented as extensible Stelo Data Sync Connectors and changing the underlying transport methodology results in an order of magnitude improvement in message delivery time. In v6.1, Stelo supports non-SQL destinations like Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2 (ADLS Gen2), AWS, and Confluent Connectors.
  • Support for Linux
The price of running open-source Linux servers is significantly lower than running Windows-based servers. Beyond the savings potential, Linux is well-suited for scaling server applications; with Linux container deployment, Stelo can be delivered as an appliance in about five minutes. In moving from a Windows-based architecture to an open-standard architecture that’s based on new inter-process communication, Google Remote Procedure Call (gRPC), Stelo can support Windows, Linux, or a mix of Windows clients.
  • User Role-based Authentication Control (RBAC)
Stelo accommodates many users simultaneously, and based on their individual roles at an organization, they have different spheres of control and interest. V6.1 allows functions to be defined by role, so users only see and control what they should. RBAC serves as a forensic feature for compliance and audit management purposes.
  • PowerShell Scripting
For those looking to manage the replication process using workflow tools, PowerShell scripting extends the capabilities of Stelo by providing more granular programmatic control of replication tasks. As an open-source program, it’s available on a wide variety of systems including Windows-, Linux-, and Mac- based systems.
  • Backwards Compatibility for Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) Destinations
Stelo continues to support SQL-92-based relational destinations because we’ve honed the use of ODBC, the most widely implemented technology for RDBMS, to access and maintain existing data warehouses. Our goal is to preserve current technology investments while providing the flexibility to evolve. Stelo V6.1 is also adding new functionality including MERGE SQL support. With Merge change data is delivered using micro-batches which reduces latency and exploits RDBMS optimizations such as Column-store indexing.
  • Container-Based Deployment
Stelo’s enhanced Rapid Application Deployment model now decreases the install time to under fifteen minutes.

“In every version release, Stelo is thinking about how we can support our customers’ needs now and in the future—especially considering how fast everything changes,” said President and Founder Paul Rampel. “We’re not rushing to embrace every new technology that comes along; we look for technologies with staying power.”
